Dear Karate for all:
I know two young people who have attended your program and the benefits that they have gained from this class are ones that they could not have gotten anywhere else. After attending some awards presentations and watching other students in this program, I am convinced that they too are acquiring benefits that parents would normally be hard pressed to find for their child.
Your program has given children with disabilities, self confidence, stamina, balance, courage, self-respect, joy and hope. The two children have developed into wonderful confident young adults. Both young adults acquired a dramatic life changing disabilities in there early teens, at a time when they are most self-conscious. At this cusp of their lives they could have shrunk into themselves and become dependent upon others for the rest of their lives, however, today are confident and will continue to grow and eventually become independent adults. I feel that it was this class and Wayne who inspired them to gain this confidence.
I know parents of children who are caught I the web of life changing events can become overwhelmed with the process of leading their child to health. One area that may parents struggle with this is helping their child become intrinsically self-confident. This is something that the child has to find within themselves. Your karate class has provided a perfect setting in which the child can find self-acceptance and self-confidence.
Thank you,
Lisa
